The final leg in his trilogy was Captain America: Civil War, which put the heroes on opposing sides after the government intervenes in their efforts. While it’s iconic for debuting Spider-Man and Black Panther to the MCU and for featuring so many characters, it’s Evans who makes this work. It’s always a treat to see an actor follow up a massive commercial success with a smaller indie flick. That’s just what Chris Evans did in 2017, sandwiching Gifted in between billion-dollar grossing releases like Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.

Gifted sees Evans play Frank Adler, a man who is raising his genius niece after his sister’s death and gets into a custody battle with his mother, who wants to exploit the girl’s intelligence. The Marc Webb-directed film did well commercially and critically and features a great emotional Evans performance.

While his debut as Captain America was strong, Evans got to shine brightest in arguably the best solo film in the MCU, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The movie is beloved for blending superhero action with the tense nature of a political thriller.

Once again, Evans was great in the role and a big part of that stemmed from his chemistry with his co-stars. Working alongside Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, and Anthony Mackie is basically when Evans is at his best in the franchise, which was evident here.

Nearly every scene feels like it jumps from the comic pages thanks to Wright’s signature style. 3 Avengers: Endgame (2019) – 3.93

Stream On Disney+

The entire MCU, which began in 2008, had been building up to this film. Avengers: Endgame marked the culmination of over a decade of storytelling as the Infinity Saga came to a conclusion. The events of the previous Avengers movie saw the heroes lose to Thanos and this was their attempt at righting that wrong.

Chris Evans gets some of the best material to work with here as one of the surviving heroes. He gets to showcase the emotional weight of the loss, the heartfelt reunion with Peggy, and he has arguably his most heroic moment when he wields Mjölnir in the fight against Thanos.

2 Avengers: Infinity War (2018) – 3.99

Stream On Disney+

Before finally winning out, the team did have to lose, and Avengers: Infinity War saw them do just that. While it doesn’t have a happy ending, this movie is filled with action from start to finish, never letting up and keeping the crowd excited throughout.

Although it has a better rating than Avengers: Endgame by a slight margin, this isn’t as much of a standout film for Chris Evans. He doesn’t get a ton of screen time here with the focus being given to other characters. Still, he’s part of some great moments and Evans is great as always.

1 Knives Out (2019) – 4.05

Reviews were sparkling for Knives Out and it was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars. While the writing is sharp, the acting is great, and the twists are engaging, many Evans fans were just excited to watch him portray a total jerk.
